Epoxy adhesives and putties: who does not know them?
July 2020 – If you are a passionate DIY master, or you are professionally dealing with different materials, there is no way you can avoid the question: which glue is right? The selection of adhesives has for quite some time now not been limited to well-known universal adhesives and super glues. A different type of adhesive seems to be available for a specific use – and this can be confusing for us… In this article we are introducing the two-component Neostik EPOXY ADHESIVE and the two-component Neostik EPOXY PUTTY. The Neostik EPOXY ADHESIVE glues the cracks of decorative pots, concrete, stone or brick slabs, pavers, fences, ceramic tiles, etc … With the Neostik EPOXY PUTTY, we repair chips or fill the space where a particle is missing. In short, Neostik EPOXY GLUE and Neostik EPOXY PUTTY are very useful in maintaining and repairing the surroundings of your house, balcony and garden.
Epoxy adhesives and putties are used to bond materials where very high strength and durability are expected. Epoxy adhesives and putties consist of resin and hardener combined in a precise mixing ratio. The mixing of these two components is carried out just before application, as the pot life (the time in which epoxy glue / putty can be treated) is relatively short. The processing time is generally approx. 5 minutes for Neostik EPOXY SUPER 5 and 90 minutes for Neostik EPOXY EXTRA. The two-component epoxy adhesive / putty then hardens, becomes very resistant and can no longer be altered by mechanical or thermal effects. Drying is completed in approx. 24 to 48 hours. The higher the ambient temperature, the faster the material hardens. This means that the curing rate increases at higher temperatures.
Bonding with adhesive Neostik EPOXY SUPER 5
Fast hardening epoxy adhesive ensures a strong and durable bond. The hardened adhesive layer is resistant to water, oil and many chemicals, and temperatures from −40 °C to +120 °C. It is ideal for gluing damages on metal, plastic, wood, stone, marble, clay and concrete, and gluing different combinations of materials together, e.g. iron on concrete.
Before gluing, clean the surfaces to be glued of all impurities (oils, greases, paint and varnish residues) and dust them well. Surfaces must be dry. Metal surfaces must not be corroded. Before gluing, roughen the surfaces with a wire brush, sandpaper, etc. Use petrol, acetone, etc. to degrease the non-absorbent surfaces. Do not degrease absorbent surfaces using solvents.
Prepare the Neostik EPOXY SUPER 5 adhesive by mixing the components pre-extruded from a double syringe in the prescribed ratio (1: 1). By pressing the piston evenly, the appropriate ratio of extruded components is achieved.
Mix the glue homogeneously and apply it to one of the surfaces. You will achieve the best properties with an approx. 0.13 mm thick layer of adhesive. Join the surfaces and, if necessary, fix them. The curing speed of Neostik EPOXY EXTRA is slower and the application time of the mixture is much longer than Neostik EPOXY SUPER 5.
Remove glue stains with acetone while they are still fresh. Allergies can occur on sensitive skin, so we recommend using a protective cream and gloves.

Sealing with epoxide putty Neostik EPOXY PUTTY
We use Neostik EPOXY PUTTY for gluing, restoration and sealing of large cracks and pipes, quick repairs of pipelines, radiators, tanks, gluing and sealing under water (aquariums, pools), anchoring screws… We knead the mass intended for use on most surfaces manually. Homogeneously kneaded mass hardens in 15 minutes. It also hardens on moist substrates and even under water. Once the epoxy putty has hardened, it can be drilled, sanded and painted. Neostik EPOXY PUTTY is waterproof and therefore ideal for underwater use in swimming pools or for conventional plumbing repairs. The hardened layer is resistant to fresh and salt water, oil and solvents. We can even use it to make components. Most effectively, it glues metal, wood, stone, and marble, porcelain, polyester and concrete.
Before using the Neostik EPOXY PUTTY, the surfaces to be glued must be cleaned of all impurities (oils, greases, paint and varnish residues) and dusted before gluing, too. Metal surfaces must not be corroded. Before gluing, roughen the surfaces with a wire brush, sandpaper, etc. Remove the oxidized layer from the aluminum surfaces. Use petrol, acetone, etc. to degrease non-absorbent surfaces. Do not degrease absorbent surfaces using solvents.
Cut off the required amount of glue / sealant and knead both components well (until a uniform colouring of the mixture is achieved – approx. 2 min), apply immediately and press firmly.
You should use the prepared mixture in approx. 3 – 4 minutes. You can further process it (sanding, drilling) when the material hardens (after approx. 15 minutes).
To seal pressurized areas (such as water pipes), first seal the opening to be sealed with a plug to reduce the pressure and then line the plug with the prepared mass. Hold the applied mass for a few minutes with your fingers or fix it with adhesive tape.
Remove glue stains with acetone while they are still fresh. Allergies can occur on sensitive skin, so we recommend using a protective cream and gloves.
