Installation of air conditioning

August 2021 – In times of heatwaves, even those of us who are not keen on using air conditioning wish we had it. When we do not want or cannot currently afford a central air conditioner or the entire air conditioning system, we can overcome the worst heat with an individual air conditioner. The latter can be placed in the chosen space in the apartment or house, and it will help us maintain a tolerable temperature in our home.

Before we start the process of installing an air conditioner, we must choose the space in our home where it will be located. In doing so, it is important to choose the space that is most exposed to the sun and is consequently the hottest space or room in our home. This ensures that this space will be the first to be cooled, which will make living in the summer months more pleasant and comfortable. After choosing a suitable space where we want to carry out the installation of indoor air conditioning, check the suitability of the wall surface, which must be unobstructed (remove any paintings or other type of decoration that may be hung on that wall). It is recommended that the wall surface (indoor and outdoor) we have chosen is not directly exposed to sunlight or any other heat source.

Installation of indoor air conditioning unit

We install the indoor air conditioning unit at a height of 2 meters from the floor (it can also be higher if our home has high ceilings). The air condition should be at least 15 centimeters from the ceiling and sides of other walls, windows, or doors, and 1 meter away from various connections for television, internet, and other similar devices, as the proximity and noise of these devices can cause operational problems on our air conditioner.

To mount the indoor air conditioning unit, we will need a support plate to hold the unit, which is attached to the wall by first drilling a hole in the wall, through which we will install the pipeline. Before drilling a hole that should be tilted down towards the outside of the home, also check the suitability of the location on the outside of the wall. We install the pipe through a drilled hole in the wall from the indoor unit to the place where we will install the outdoor unit of the air conditioner.

This is followed by the installation of the indoor unit of the air conditioning on the support plate and the connection of the pipe to the water drain located on the air condition. To seal the indoor unit of the air condition, we recommend the use of Neostik SILIKON NEUTRAL or Neostik PU SEALANT BOND & SEAL (in case the opening is larger and subsequent painting will be required), which are also suitable for sealing the outdoor unit of the air conditioning.

We continue to fill the drilled hole that we drilled for the assembly and installation of the indoor unit of the air conditioner. To fill the hole, we use manual Neostik PU FOAM UNIVERSAL or Neostik PU FOAM UNIVERSAL for gun application, which, in addition to filling the pipe, also enables optimal sound and heat insulation, regardless of the size of the hole we drilled.

Installation of outdoor air conditioning unit

After the installation of the indoor unit of the air conditioning is completed, the installation of the outdoor unit follows. Similar to what we did before for the installation of the indoor unit, we first choose the most suitable location for the installation of the outdoor unit of the air conditioner. As already mentioned, the latter must be away from areas directly affected by solar heat, and at the same time, the outdoor unit should be kept away from dusty areas, which could damage it and shorten its lifespan. If we have a radio or television antenna installed at home, we must also consider this before installation. The outdoor air conditioning unit should be at least 3 meters away from the antennas.

Once the appropriate location has been determined, the outdoor air conditioning unit can be installed and connected to the necessary electrical wires and water pipes. We continue with the deaeration, in which case we must de-aerate the air and moisture from our new air conditioning from the so-called cooling circuit. For the latter, we use a vacuum pump, which is left to run until an absolute vacuum is reached. Then check all the valves for tightness to prevent any unwanted leaks.

Attach the pipeline to the wall with clamps and protect the part of the pipeline coming from the inside to the outside with insulating tape to adequately protect it from the cold. The hole drilled for the pipeline is closed with polyurethane foam Neostik PU FOAM UNIVERSAL, which is suitable for filling pipes and other materials.

This completes the installation of the indoor and outdoor air conditioning unit, which means that we can now indulge in the comfort of a cooled home even on the hottest summer days.
